The Crystal Method show off the NI Maschine (on AOTS)

When you think of Electronic and Hip Hop drum machines, one of the first that come to mind is the almighty MPC series.  That's fair, since they have a following that includes the who's who of the industry and have ruled for a long, long time.  Although I adore my MPC 2500, I just boxed it and put in its place an Akai MPD32 (which, by the way, I Love).  I did this because I use Ableton Live, which can do everything my MPC can do (and more) and can be done via my computer's display, which is - I don't know - 500 times the size of that of an MPC.

Oh, my beloved APC40... How I love thee.

I've been jonesing for this Ableton Live controller since it's announcement - Pre-ordered it that day!  Well, it's home now and (although I haven't had the chance to really put it through its paces) it rules!

Akai's APC40 Ableton Live ControllerFirst impressions: It's a solid, solid unit and beautifully designed.  All faders, buttons and knobs have got a nice feel to them.  Tight unit with quality manufacturing - feels as tank-like as the MPC series (just a lot lighter and slimmer).  For those familiar with the MPC, the APC will provide a couple of familiar components (i.e. Bank Select).

Stay tuned for an in-depth run through and video demo.
